Public signal methodology

How Skipi publishes source-attributed maritime signals without turning an incoming report into an unsupported finding.

Methodology · version 1

Signal, not verdict

A public signal records that a material report exists and may warrant due diligence. It does not by itself establish fault, causation, liability, payment status or regulatory non-compliance.

Provenance first

Every published signal identifies the intake channel, public sources available for review, the date basis, confidence, material gaps and a correction route. Private email content and attachments are not republished unless there is a separate rights and privacy decision.

Source independence

Several publications repeating the same family, community or social-media account are treated as one underlying source chain, not as independent confirmation. A report is upgraded only when a genuinely independent primary or authoritative source supports it.

Confidence labels

Verified means the relevant claim is supported by a primary or authoritative record. Corroborated means independent reliable sources support the same material fact. Limited means the report is attributable and relevant but lacks primary confirmation. Disputed means a material on-record contradiction exists and is shown alongside the original claim.

Vessel linkage

Vessel-linked signals use the seven-digit IMO number as the canonical key. The vessel name shown is contextual only. This prevents a signal from becoming detached after a rename or management change. The vessel identity and the human-event claim are verified separately.

Date semantics

If the event date is unknown, Skipi uses a clearly labelled source or publication date. A last-contact date, report date, injury date and date of death are never silently treated as interchangeable.

Allegations and sensitive claims

Claims about injury, death, compensation, insurance, abandonment or company conduct are attributed to the reporting party. Unknowns and missing responses are stated directly. A signal must not imply a causal link that the source or evidence does not establish.

Public boundary

Skipi does not publish private phone numbers, home addresses, identity documents, medical records, bank details, private mailbox content or unredacted attachments in this feed. The structured public record contains only what is necessary to understand and investigate the signal.

Corrections

Corrections, primary documents and on-record responses can be sent to info@skipi.app. Updates preserve the original provenance, state what changed and adjust the confidence label when warranted.
